Summer Show

As You Like It

The Shakespeare Gild will present As You Like It at the Field Theater on June 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th at 7:30 PM and on Sunday, June 19th at 2 PM. Tickets are $12.00 for Arden Club members and 15.00 for the general public. Children, 12 and under are $7:00. All tickets for the Sunday Matinee on June 19th are $7.00.

As You Like It takes place, in part, in the Forest of Arden. Traditionally we have presented this play every ten years. However, this year's production was postponed from June of 2020. It is good to be back. This classic Shakespearian comedy will be directed by Mary Catherine Kelley and produced by Katie Donovan, with costumes by Katie Donovan and Linda Toman.

As You Like It is a fantasy. Originally written to take place in France, our production inhabits a non-defined, storybook land where the antagonists are very evil and the protagonists are good, resilient, and fun. However, this is Shakespeare. Transformations are not only possible but likely. The cast includes many faces familiar to our audiences, as well as some newcomers.

The costumes for this production reflect the fantasy, "nature is healing" theme of Shakespeare's play. We are seeking volunteers to help create and construct these garments and hats. We have some clever volunteers at work right now, but we would like to include the talents of as many Arden Artisans as possible. In addition, we are seeking someone to knit or crochet two long stocking caps in a riot of colors. If you have any interest in textile art, both machine and handwork, please contact Katie Donovan at or through the Facebook Group, "Ardenistas." If you would like to be on Linda Toman's committee creating our outlandish hats ( and some not so outlandish) please contact us as well.

We are always eager to welcome new (and old) friends to the Shakespeare Gild. If you have an interest in helping run this production, we have jobs of all types and commitment time just waiting for you. We are also seeking one actor (of any age) to play a small role as a Lord. If you've been wanting to dip your toe into acting, this is your chance.

Contact Katie Donovan as above.
